Another black screen!!!

I had to replace a Sony TV (KD-43X81J) after 6 months because of an issue. The issue was a blank screen presenting when I switched on tv. There was sound but no picture and tv didn't respond to the remote. I reported the problem and the tv was replaced as they reckoned it was a problem with screen and Sony don't replace screens. Since the tv was replaced with a new one a fortnight ago the issue has occurred again twice i.e. turn on tv, blank screen with a purplish tint and sound. Once I turn off tv and turn it on again the picture flickers for about a minute and then settles down. I have Sky multiscreen and I have checked TV in other room and the picture is fine and tv working ok. The only thing connected to tv apart from power socket is cable connecting tv to Sky box. As I said the Sky is working fine on the other TV. Any idea what the issue is here? On one hand I'm told it can't be tv as it has happened with 2 new TVs but on the other hand I'm told it can't be anything other than TV as the other TV is working fine.

Hey, can you check if your TV is running on the latest software version from this link, does the black screen only happens when you have the Sky connected to your TV? If it only happens while the sky is connected to the TV, can you disable Bravia sync on your TV by following the steps in this link. I hope this helps.

Thanks for your interest Elodin. It's difficult to determine if it only happens when connected to Sky as the TV is always connected to SKY box as everything I watch is through SKY, i.e. tv and apps such as Netflix, Disney and U Tube etc. I'm fairly sure I have the latest software but I'll doublecheck. When it happened to the first tv I did all the standard checks that Sony Support suggested i.e. software update, factory reset. As that didn't resolve it the first time I'm assuming it won't work this time. I got the replacement TV on 1st October and it has happened twice since. I'm waiting for it to happen again and then I'll email Sony again. I've consulted with shop where I bought it and a local tv repair man and both are saying it cannot be anything but the TV. It's peculiar that the same thing has happened with two new TVs. It's only when I turned the TV on did it happen i.e. the tv didn't go blank while I was watching it.

Hey @Sassy1, I'd actually recommend removing the sky box from the TV and monitor the TV for a day or 2 to check if the issue issue till happening or not. You can watch the built-in apps while monitoring the TV without the Sky box.

Also it is important to check the software and a factory data reset if the issue happens again, if that didn't help, try reaching out to Sony reps directly.

Thanks Piscie. The difficulty is that is has happened just twice since 1st October. If I disconnect the sky box I won't have TV for 2 days and still no certainty what the issue is as it happens so intermittently. I have another LG TV in another room that works off the same sky box and this TV was fine when the other showed a blank screen, thus ruling out the Sky box as the issue. Also this is a new sky box and the issue was also happening with the previous sky box. Someone suggested swapping the tvs and then monitoring it and if it still happens with tv in new location it must therefore be the TV? Does that make sense?

Thanks Lord v. I was thinking of doing that actually. I'm just waiting for it to happen again! I suppose it's a case of eliminating things one by one. It can be frustrating and I'm a bit reluctant to change brand as I don't think many others match Sony's 5 year warranty.

Then yea I'd keep an eye on it for now while trying to eliminate possible factors one by one, all the best buddy!
