Dubbing

I have a RDR-HXD995 which l know is getting on a bit. I can transfer family videos from my video recorder onto the HDD drive. I get right to the final dubbing bit ready to burn to a dvd but it says load  a recordable disc. I've tried DVD-R and DVD+R..but still no luck. Am l using wrong discs? Should they say for video only? If so who sells them? Cheers!

It should be OK as long as you are dubbing in ‘Video Mode’ and the discs are brand new and unused. Are the videos recorded in SP?

Do you have the manual? If not you can download it here:-

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/3295/32950801M.pdf#page89

You need Page 89 onwards.

I have tried several DVDs since your reply.

I put in Maxell DVD-R (with DVD printed on the disc).
Enter dubbing = "Wrong disc type please load a DVD+R/+RW disc.

So, put in a Maxell DVD+R RW (then I can hear the HDD making a repeating noise, like its hunting for something?).
them it says ! Please load a recordable disc). I then go to disc set up and it says FAILED.

I go to Format > video mode> start. It then returns to video mode ie it won't let me set it to video mode as you suggested.

Any further help will be appreciated.
