Sony A7R III Strange viewfinder anomaly

When looking through the viewfinder I can see an orange band around the outside edge of the viewfinder window (sensor). It doesn't intrude into the field of view or interfere with composing the image and does not appear in the image file. The orange band is at the outer edge of the viewfinder window and seems to serve no purpose, at least not one that I understand. Is this a fault?

The orange light could mean that the memory card is full; however, that depends on the icon. You can find the list of icons and indicators on the camera and the view finder here. Is it one of these icons in the view finder section?
