Alpha 380 and Sigma Flash

I just resently bought my Alpha 380 camera and was told by the reseller that I would be able to use all of my old Minolta accessories, among them my Sigma EF-500 ST flash, but I can't get that working on my camera. Does anyone have a similar problem?

I do not have the same equipment but I wonder if your have tried to force the TTL mode on your flash in order to see if it works? I have done this manipulation on a Nikon SB600 and it was working on a Canon EOS 40D camera. So, I believe the E-TTL mode is probably not compatible with the Alpha while the standard TTL mode is safer.
